React to Competitive Challenges and Gain Advantage with NetApp HCI

09/04/2018

During NetApp’s 2018 first quarter fiscal year earnings conference call, CEO George Kurian summarised the philosophy of NetApp HCI. George explained that NetApp’s approach is to bring to the business an enterprise-grade hyperconverged solution that deals with the many challenges that first-generation hyperconverged solutions have brought about.

Businesses are under immense pressure to harness today’s wealth of data and apply it to create new value across the whole company – all with limited time, skills, and budget. Essentially once NetApp understood the limitations in the landscape, they were poised to build a HCI solution that would overcome such barriers and enable HCI to ultimately become an integral part of the business.

NetApp HCI ensures workload-specific performance. So, why is this significant? By being able to set complete performance thresholds on a per-workload basis, allows you to now consolidate Tier 1 and mission-critical data on to one single HCI cluster. So, this does give peace of mind that such workloads will get the performance they need, while also taking advantage of data centre consolidation.

Flexibility and scale are also improved with NetApp HCI. It’s easier to grow for the components that are required, while reducing the total cost of unused resources. This nullifies HCI tax and allows for a more cost-efficient solution that can scale to large enterprise architectures.

NetApp HCI is also embedded with an automated infrastructure state of mind. A new setup interface takes all the mass input variables and automates them into a simple and easy-to-use wizard that can have customers up and running an optimised cluster in less than a half an hour. Additionally, NetApp HCI builds on the open-stack approachability of SolidFire, which allows for easy programmability and API call use.

Finally, NetApp HCI fully integrates into the NetApp Data Fabric Model. This model enables the full potential of data to be unleashed across your environment whether they be on-premises, public, or hybrid cloud.
